More About CREW
"Using Science to Learn, Applying Knowledge
to Save, A Future for Wildlife"
The Carl H. Lindner Jr. Family Center for Conservation and Research
of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) is a state-of-the-art research facility
dedicated to science that will help save endangered plants and
animals from extinction. CREW is home to both the Plant and Animal
Research Divisions of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden,
with a staff consisting of up to ten scientists.
CREW’s primary goals and strategies:
• Study endangered plants and animals, using biotechnology
to improve their propagation and management
• Cultivate a Frozen Zoo and Garden (an organized genome
resource bank) while developing methods for cryopreserving scarce
genetic material, and utilize these resources for propagating
plants and animals
• Disseminate information about endangered species, scientific
progress and global conservation efforts and encourage public
education and support
• Train scientists, promote technology transfer and sound
conservation-based research initiatives and foster collaboration
with other organizations.
CREW’s Mission
To use science and technology to understand, preserve and propagate
endangered flora and fauna and facilitate the conservation of
global biodiversity.
