Children's Programs
Do you know a 3-11 year old that loves animals? Our Zoo classes
may be just what you’re looking for! Each month, a different
topic is featured in Zoo classes that are designed to be educational,
interactive, and just plain fun! Encourage the wildlife enthusiast
in your child through a Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Zoo
class.

| SUMMER
SERIES • 18-36 MONTHS |
|
These special programs are especially for kids 18-36 months
old. Parents and their child will see an animal demonstration
and then take a guided stroll through the Zoo for different
hands-on learning adventures. Don’t forget to bring
your stroller! (No charge for accompanying adult.)
LIMIT OF 10 PARTICIPANTS PER SESSION
Note: Due to the hands-on and interactive nature of these
programs, siblings not falling within the 18-36 month age
range, including infants, cannot be accommodated. Please
check our youth program listings for programs offered simultaneously
for other age groups.

THE SOUNDS AROUND
“
Grr,” says the tiger, “Quack,” says the
duck, “Hiss,” says the…cockroach? Animals
sure do have a lot to say! Come to the Zoo and learn to
talk to the animals in their language! We’ll tweet,
growl, and moo our way through the Zoo as we learn to listen
to and mimic the sounds around us!

ANI-MOVES
Can you hop like a bunny? Waddle like a duck? Pounce like
a cat? It is fun to imitate the way that animals move!
We’ll practice our animal moves in the classroom,
then go out in the Zoo and move like the animals we see!

COUNTING ON CRITTERS
Whom can you count on? How about animals? Join us to work
on counting the animal way. We’ll use activities,
crafts, and live animals to help us practice our counting
skills. Whether it’s one tall giraffe or ten waddling
penguins, this program is guaranteed to make counting
fun! Please specify which age group/section your child
is in on the registration form.

ANIMAL OPPOSITES
Whether you like elephants or inchworms, cheetahs or sloths,
you’ll enjoy learning about opposites with the
help of some friendly Zoo animals. Through games, live
animal encounters, and a craft, practicing your opposites

ANIMAL SHAPES AND SIZES
Little, big, round, and square – animals come in
all shapes and sizes. Find out who’s big at the Zoo
and who’s not! We’ll meet some special guests
and discover why animals come in different shapes and sizes
and why it’s good to be different. Please specify

six-seven year olds as they continue to discover the excitement
and wonder of animals. Visits from animal friends, hikes

New This Summer! The 4–5 year old Summer Series and the 6–7 year
old Summer Series are being offered at the same dates and times. While covering
the same topic, each age group will participate in learning activities that are
age-appropriate and enable each child to share the experience
with their peers.

MY, WHAT BIG FEET YOU HAVE!
From hooves to flippers, feet come in all shapes and sizes!
In this class, we will learn about big-footed beast with
crafts, animal demonstrations, and a hike through the
Zoo. We’ll learn why feet
are so important and what they can tell us about our Zoo

Whether you are eating a meal or protecting yourself, teeth
are amazingly helpful tools! We’ll meet some toothy
friends in the classroom and then take a hike through
the Zoo to learn about how our Zoo animals use their
teeth to help them survive. Please specify which age

MY, WHAT BIG EYES YOU HAVE!
Do you see what I see? Animal eyes! In this class, we’ll
see eye-to-eye with some animals in the classroom, head
out into the Zoo on an eye scavenger hunt, and do a craft
to help us learn how different animals see the world. Please

MEET A KEEPER - JUNGLE TRAILS
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about
the Zoo’s own collection of diverse primates. We’ll
meet with one of the Jungle Trails keepers and have the
opportunity to learn about the Zoo’s primates as
well as the role of keepers at the Zoo. Afterwards, we’ll
hike in the Zoo and look at ways that keepers work to
care for the animals. Be sure to bring questions! Please

MEET A KEEPER - REPTILE HOUSE
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to handle
some of the most dangerous animals on Earth? Come meet
the people that do. This program will give us insight
into what the keepers do on a daily basis. Following
the program we will hike the Zoo and look at these displays
in a whole different way. Please specify which age group/section

- WILDLIFE CANYON
Have you ever imagined working with some of the largest and
most endangered animals on the planet?! This is your time
to meet with the people that care for these wonderful creatures.
Get an in-depth look at what its like to work with some of
the most fascinating animals at the Cincinnati Zoo. Please

SERIES • 12-14 YEAR OLDS |
|
Hands-on exploration and discovery are crucial elements
of these programs for 12-14 year olds. Designed to provide
more in-depth investigation into topics on nature and wildlife,
these programs combine live animal encounters with Zoo
hikes and other topic-appropriate activities. These programs
are designed to maximize peer interaction and engagement,
therefore, parents need not accompany child.

ZOO PHOTOGRAPHY 101
The Zoo is a great place to hone your skills as a photographer.
In this introductory class, learn how light and the right
angle can turn your photo into a work of art. We’ll
start with some basic instruction in the classroom before
heading out into the Zoo to practice our skills. All
participants must bring their own camera and should be
familiar with its basic operation.

BAT’S INCREDIBLE!
From seed dispersers to tiny vampires, bats play many important
roles in their ecosystems. Find out why they are important
and how you can attract these voracious mosquito munchers
to your yard. Kathy Edelen from Echobats Inc. will also
be on hand for a live demonstration of real bat research
equipment that may help us figure out which species of
bats call the Zoo grounds home.
