Guided Tours

Explore the wilds of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden with our experienced tour guides. Through these tours, your students will develop an understanding of wildlife, wild places and some of the environmental challenges that Earth is currently facing. All tours are adaptable to meet the interests and skill development from first to twelfth grades.

Canceled only by weather emergency. There is a $30 cancellation fee for any program canceled less than 24 hours in advance of program date.

 
         
 
Grades 1-12
Adaptations – Discover how nature works. Search for clues to discover how plants and animals survive in the wild. Observe the physical and behavioral characteristics that define a species and its role within an ecosystem.
Protecting Biodiversity: Wildlife in Danger — Develop an awareness of the dangers that animals and natural habitats now face. Discuss how we can help solve the problems.
Zoo Careers — Introduce your students to the variety of careers available in zoos and aquariums. From animal keepers to reproductive physiologists and everything in between, you will get a first-hand look at how a zoo fulfills its mission of conservation, education and adventure.
NEW! Our Green Planet — Explore the major biomes of the world. Find out how plants and animals have adapted in order to survive in differing biomes.
Insect World — Learn about one of the most important groups of animals on the planet in our award-winning Insectarium. A live insect demonstration is included. A perfect cold weather tour.
Botanical Tour — Learn how plants have adapted to compete for sunlight and water. Explore plant ecosystems on a tour through our African savanna, the Arctic tundra, mountain rain forests and a temperate
bamboo forests.

Call for information about our other Guided Tours. General guided tours are available Monday – Friday, October – December and February – April. These tours last approximately 90 minutes.

Botanical Tours are available Thursdays, September through May, and are limited to 30 students. January and February programs will be indoors using slides. Tours meet at the Botanical Center at 9:45 unless special arrangements are made.

Insect tours are available Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, September - December and
February – March and limited to 30 students.

All tours meet at 9:45 unless special arrangements are made. Please let us know if any of your students need special accommodations for the tour.

New – Green Building Tour
Join us for a 30-minute sneak peak into the design and construction of the Zoo’s new Harold C. SchEducation Center. Learn about methods and materials used to make it a certified “green building”.
