Cat House
Curious and clever eyes stalk your every move as you enter the
world of the cat, one of nature’s most successful hunters.
As predators, all cats share the same basic build and yet each
species is uniquely adapted to hunting particular prey in its
specific habitat. The Cat House introduces visitors to the diversity
of adaptations that cats have evolved to bring down a meal.
Originally constructed in 1950, the Carnivora House was renovated
and transformed into the award-winning Cat House in 1985. Naturalistic
exhibits featuring murals, streams and artificial rocks and trees
depict habitats throughout the world and display more than 15
species of small cats and cat-like creatures. Here you can witness
the lithe grace with which an ocelot ascends a rainforest tree
and come face to face with a fishing cat.
