Tiger Canyon

Predators employ varied hunting strategies—stalk, ambush, chase and so on. Some hunt alone while others cooperate as a team. Despite their success as skilled hunters, many large predators are highly endangered, unable to adapt to a world changing drastically at the hands of humans.

Constructed in 1934, the Lion and Tiger Grotto, now called Tiger Canyon, was one of the earliest naturalistic exhibits that displayed animals without bars. Visitors can descend the paved path to view endangered predators, such as tigers and wild dogs, lounging in the grass or sunbathing on the artificial rockwork and learn more about the challenges they face in the wild.
