In vitro collecting involves taking small bits of tissue from plants in the field, cleaning them, placing them into vials of nutrient medium, and transporting them back to a laboratory for further growth in tissue culture. CREW has been a pioneer in the use of IVC, and has done pilot studies in Trinidad and Costa Rica.
